5:15pm: Reid was bumped from surgery. An emergency surgery was needed on another baby and since he was an "add-on" to the schedule today, he was the first to go. He is, however, on the schedule at 8:00am tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will have better luck.

We did get a little bad news today. In addition to the E. coli and klebsiella that grew in the mucus culture, MRSA seems to reared its head. It took three days to culture and with the fact that Reid has improved so much over the past few days, they are hoping that they caught it early. What does this mean? He is now on an antibiotic for 2 weeks and is being moved into isolation where he will remain until he comes home. From what we understand, once you get it, you are always a carrier and the hospitals don't take risks and put you in isolation. Long story short, we picked the short straw again...

9:15am: Kristen just got off the phone with the surgeon so that we could provide consent to do the surgery. Sounds like the surgeons do this exact procedure quite often. The three risks of surgery are: 1) blood loss; 2) infection; 3) nerve damage. The typical amount of blood loss is about 1cc, the doctors administer antibiotics before and after surgery, and they do their best to preserve all nerves. They have Reid penciled in for a 3:30pm surgery today, but is subject to change.

6:45am: Reid will have surgery today and is listed as an "add-on" in the OR. This means that there is no definitive time as to when he will be admitted... so we will be sitting around and waiting to hear something. They did say, however, that it will most likely be later this afternoon. No other news to report... he had a good night again and seems to be very stable. They didn't touch any of his vent settings or change any of his medication.
