4:00pm: It has been a roller coaster ride of a day for Reid. He seems fairly quiet and peaceful, but the second he wakes up, his respiratory status goes down the toilet. We have been here since 1pm and for the most part, he has been at 100% O2.

His feeds are up to 16cc per hour (near full feeds) and he finally had another bowel movement at 3:30. He had a tiny one last night and they had to give him another suppository to get this one out of him. The morphine really does a number on him and plugs him up. His hyperal (TPN) will be stopped tonight.

His upper right lung appeared to be collapsed in this morning's xray and seems like he can't have a normal day anymore. Something has to happen...

They just turned his head to the other side and he seems to be tolerating it well. His O2 has come down to 85, but I have a feeling that it is going to be short lived.

They are going to start chloralhydrate tonight. Supposedly this should help him get some sleep and stay asleep. We will see...

Blood gas was just done. Everything looks good: CO2 is 63; PaO2 is 73; pH was normal.

Everything looks and sounds normal about him today and if you didn't look at his vent or his O2 sats, one might think he was having a good day.
