11:00pm: Whew! The day is finally over with. I took vacation today, but it has felt like anything but. We got into the NICU around 2 this afternoon to have our discussion with Reid's new doctor. Needless to say, I think we were a little caught off guard with what she had in mind. The conversation, which we thought was going to be with just her... ended up being with the social worker, two nurses, the respiratory therapist and the doctor. Dr. G went down the multiple paths of "what if" situations and, to be honest, it was quite overwhelming. There is too much to write in a blog... so I might have to save it for another day. I will say, the conversation was very blunt, and has forced us to think about some things that we were hoping that we wouldn't really ever have to deal with.

So... today was a bad day for mom and dad... but, overall, Reid actually had a pretty good day. When we left the NICU around 7, he was on 35%-ish O2 and had been awake ever since we got there at 2. So, we were able to enjoy lots of smiles - he was a happy baby. My parents came into today today and the stopped by the hospital to pay him a visit --- they enjoyed seeing him as it was the first time in quite a while that they have been able to see him interact with others (i.e. not sedated or paralyzed).

Kristen just called to check in on him and he was at 50% oxygen and sound asleep. Our biggest concern right now is his CO2 levels as he is borderline on needing to be put back on the vent. Please keep him in your prayers and hope that tonight is a good night and his CO2 levels can come down - even if it is just a smiggin'.

Bed time for us. Long day today and glad it is over with...
