3:30pm: After a CO2 of 63 and higher oxygen requirements (55-65 range) they decided to put Reid back on 5 liter flow. Reid wasn't working harder to breathe, but the combination of the higher CO2 and oxygen requirements point to the fact that he wasn't for the wean. This is a huge disappointment and we feel that our hopes of having him home sometime late spring or early summer have been crushed. We have some questions that we will ask the doctors, but we are again, realizing the severity of his lung condition. It is easy to keep pushing aside how bad his lungs are when we have seen nothing but success and forward movement over the past 3 weeks --- guess this is a reality check for us.
