2:30pm: They had to go up to 5 liter flow last night as Reid continued to de-sat while he was asleep. They have listened to his lungs and apparently he sounds very wet and retaining too many fluids. They gave him a supplemental dose of his diuretic to see if this helps, but he had a very high CO2 of 72 last night. He is back down to 4 liter today, but looks like we might be in a holding pattern for the next day or so to see if this evens out. The large weight gain (almost a half a pound in a couple of days) would also be attributed to the retaining of fluids. It is a little frustrating as we had our hopes up that today would be the day he went to 3 liter. I guess we need to put back on our NICU hats and never get overly excited or too upset about things --- it is always a roller coaster ride in the NICU, regardless of how close you are to going home.
