12:45pm: A couple of updates: his flow was was weaned to 7, his feeds were increased to 29cc per hour and he weighed in at 4.88kg (10.75 lbs). His cheeks are really starting to get chubby!

10:45am: Reid had a wonderful gas of 39 last night. We were told yesterday that if he had another good gas that he would be weaned on the flow again. This time, to 7.

Yesterday, we had a good visit with him, but were a little discouraged with the doctors comments. She revealed that the pulmonologist thinks Reid is going to fail. Yesterday, they started the weaning process of the prednisone steroid and will be weaned twice a week until it is gone. The fear is that this steroid has given great results but we will take a step backwards once it is out of his system. He can't take these steroids forever.

The other bit of discouraging news is that we found out that Reid cannot have a local anesthetic for his surgery and will have to be intubated and given general anesthesia. The local can be used for his hernias but not for the other two procedures (nissen and g-tube). The plan is to wean him a little further on his high flow, intubate him, have surgery, and pray like heck that they can extubate him quickly. We are just enjoying him so much right now with all of the smiles and interaction, and we are afraid we will lose all of this after surgery and unsure when we will have it again.

We have no idea when the surgery is going to be, but we have a suspicion that it is going to be sooner than later. We both think within the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Anyway, time to get our day rolling.
