9:45pm: Reid had an unsuccessful attempt at weaning his pressures today. They attempted to move from 11 liters to 10, but had some desatting that made them bump back up to 11. In his defense, it might have been a bad day as there were quite a few changes: started to wean his prednisone steroid, changed out one of the inhalers with a different one, and removed one of his diuretics yesterday. They have since reevaluated his condition and added a heavier dose of his other diuretic (lasix) as it needed to be increased due to his weight gain. He seemed to be a different little boy this afternoon and they will possibly attempt the wean again tomorrow if he has another good CO2 gas tonight. Talking to his respiratory therapist this evening, she thought his lungs may have been a little "wet" due to the lack of diuretic and that may have been the culprit. I do know that after the increase in lasix that he had quite a bit of urine output. Anyway, I leave you with another picture: a little boy dreaming about big and exciting things. So exciting, that he couldn't contain his inner joy while sleeping:

And here is a close up picture of his hair. I have noticed over the past 2 days that his hair is really starting to come back in after being shaved so many times. His eyebrows have also started to darken up a little bit:

And one last photo of his left wrist where his arterial line went bad a few weeks ago. Doctors think that he will have a minor scar:

Oh, and one last thing... they resumed feedings at 14cc per hour. They are expecting to resume full feeds tomorrow assuming he continues to tolerate it. Good night.

6:45am: A decent night for Reid. His CO2 was much better today at 64. And despite 3 large poopy diapers in less than 24 hours, he still managed to gain about 50 grams (half of his goal for the week) and now weighs 4.65kg (10.25lbs). He was a little fussy this morning but the nurse thought it was because he was hungry. His xrays checked out OK and I am expecting that they will start feeds again when the doctor sees him or during rounds, whichever one comes first. A very restless night for me and my stomach gets in knots when Kristen calls in to see how his night went, but I can rest a little easier now. Unfortunately, it is time to get the day started.
