12:30am: It has been a long day at the hospital. Reid is miserable as they have weaned his pain medicines in half. They are afraid of the long weaning process like his morphine/methadone proved, so they are really trying to limit the amount that they are giving him. However, he is receiving extra boluses of the fentynol to help keep it in check. He seems to sleep peacefully and then abruptly awakes and is in excruciating pain.
Kristen was able to hold him this afternoon. He wasn't in a great mood, but was somewhat relaxed compared to the way the rest of the afternoon had ended.
When we left tonight around midnight, they ended up having to give him chloral hydrate to help him sleep/relax. He has fever of 38.3 C (about 101 F) and his heart rate is rather high. While temperatures are fairly common after surgery, he really shouldn't be having one 2 days later. They are running a bunch of blood labs and cultures tonight to see if there is anything that shows up. In the mean time, they have given him some tylenol to help break the fever. We are very nervous as to what this is going to show, but he is in so much pain that it kills us watching him thrash around when he is awake. His heart rate tonight, even while sleeping was around 160. Normally it is around 115-125.
He still hasn't had a bowel movement and has been three days since his last. They have ordered Reglan and MiraLAX to see if they can give him some help in that department. He has been getting feeds for almost 2 days now and I am sure he is uncomfortable from that as well.
We will be calling in a couple of hours to see if there is any news on his labs and to see if his fever has broken. Anyway, here are a few pictures from this afternoon when Kristen was holding him:

That face! Those cheeks! So cute!!

Love the video of Reid playing with his mobiles! He was watching you all videotape more than the mobile. Hope he continues to progress after the surgery. Not an easy time....
